Ellis Island

We closed the summer with a visit to Ellis Island. Even after several visits over the course of my life, I still find the exhibits and the building itself impressive. I also learn something new every time I go. For example, this time I learned that first- and second-class passengers didn’t actually pass through the processing center, but rather had their documents inspected onboard ship. Maybe this is why I find no record of my great-grandfather Nathan Zweifler/Neufeld passing through? This requires further investigation…

Unfortunately, an afternoon exploring our nation’s immigration history didn’t reveal any new ways to tackle the immigration issues in my own life. Bummer. Looks like we’ll have to stick with Plan A after all, eh nen?
